HELPFUL TIPS |
The following are some helpful tips before beginning your hyperbaric experience: |
SLOW DOWN – Don’t be rushed, take your time, and go to the bathroom before each session
EAT – Have a light snack or juice ready in case you feel low blood sugar and make sure that you have had something to eat before the session if you have problems with blood sugars
COMMUNICATE – The pressure will feel similar to that of descending from an airplane flight, and you should feel a popping sensation in your ears to relieve the pressure that is being built up. Make sure that you stop the pressurization if you feel pressure is building up too much without relief. DO NOT LET IT GET PAINFUL and tell the hyperbaric attendant to stop the pressurization and wait for the pressure to equalize before continuing on with the session
PREPARE – Be prepared for your hyperbaric session. Ask your hyperbaric therapist about clothing and materials, including electronics, that are not allowed inside the chamber during your treatment session. Here’s an example of a safety notice you may be asked to follow:
- Only 100% cotton clothing is permitted in the chamber.
- Remove Dentures before entering the chamber.
- Strictly Prohibited items (not allowed inside the chamber):
o Alcohol, petroleum, or synthetic substances (e.g. hairspray, lipstick, cologne) |
o Ignition sources (lighters, matches, Velcro), |
o Battery-powered devices |
PREVENT – Oxygen toxicity & other serious complications of hyperbaric oxygen therapy are extremely rare for pressures below 2.0 ATA 60 minutes sessions and keeping below these levels will help to avoid these concerns. These reactions can be further minimized by taking 5 minute air breaks and this is recommended for higher pressures and/or greater time durations. Make sure you speak to your qualified hyperbaric attendant to reduce unnecessary risks
FOLLOW – Keep a minimum of 4 hours between each session if you are doing 2 per day
REVIEW – Tell your attendant if there are any changes in your symptoms, medications, since your last session or since seeing your doctor (if it is your first session)
AND ALWAYS – VERY IMPORTANT! |
*** Remember to tell your hyperbaric therapist if there are any changes in your present health condition or medication changes – before EACH visit *** |
